THE STATE IS THE ONLY TERRORIST

State repression knows no bounds. The Cyprus cops, showing their true, hated nature, have once again given a lesson in viciousness. The “social side” they have so frantically tried to exhibit lately, (following the “scandals” that they were unable to cover up this time, ending in the resignation of their chief of police and Justice minister) with their ridiculous pro-cop societies, and even more ridiculous leaflets that are even handed out to primary school pupils! is another state deception aimed at the perpetuation of the conditions of exploitation and the imposition of power.
One evening last November, there was a meeting of comrades at the anarchist nucleus place in Limassol. As the meeting ended, two comrades who had left earlier suddenly come back, followed by someone in civilian clothes. We came out and the guy ran off, shouting that he is a cop. Soon several more cops arrive. They surround the place with their cars, and about a dozen burst inside. The one who had been before (in civilian clothing) points a comrade out to his superior, claiming he saw him writing slogans on a wall about imprisoned anarchist Karakasian and profanities against the cops. They subsequently ask him to identify himself and accompany them to the police station. The comrade cuts them off, saying he is not obliged to do anything and that he does not recognise that they have the right to tell him what to do. A big fuss is created and when other comrades point out to the State pigs that they do not have a warrant to enter the place, they leave, snarling threats. They block all the exits and demand that the comrade surrender to them. At the same time, from what we can tell, the cops start trying to get a search warrant. Ten people remain at the place until we decide to get out and leave before they obtain the warrant. Seeing this, the cops try to prevent us from leaving, insisting on the surrender of the particular comrade. When he tries to re-enter the place, they grab his arm and try to arrest him. Comrades rush to the spot and start a “wrestling” game trying to pull him out of the fascist cops’ clutches. Finally the cops manage to drag him out, They hit him and put him by force in a police car. The reaction of arrested comrade Aris Makrides demonstrates his general conceptualisation and the revulsion he feels for every authoritarian cog … Flanked by two cops in the car he breaks out into hearty laughter, shouting FUCKING COPS (!) just before he is transferred to the Limassol police HQ. Note that, as they dragged him into the cop car one State robot, pulling the comrade’s hair, yells in his face that he will “chew him up”. Of course, they don’t even think about legalistic crap and statist window-dressing with respect to his rights etc. during his arrest. The stance of our comrade during the interrogation was completely negative, his clash with the neo-junta interrogators of the farce they call democracy was total; he even refused to disclose his name! Their hatred for every social fighter was so great they start beating him in the front-yard of the hated construction known as Limassol Police HQ, as soon as they get him out of the vehicle. The beatings were repeated several times more in the rooms of the station of the Cyprus “EU” state. Finally, they set him “free”, badly hurt, especially about the head, having exhausted the twenty-four hours they are allowed to detain someone without a court order. There are several charges against him, the most serious being assaulting and causing grievous bodily harm to a cop!!
Naturally, nobody has heard about the severe beating of comrade Makrides by the neo-fascist pigs, just as nobody had heard about the luxury car scam by some cops, just as nobody knew about the telephone-tapping computer that was “accidentally” found at police HQ, just as nobody knows about the physical and psychological torture against detainees, like nobody has any idea about the daily beatings of poor immigrants… Maybe someone will say that the court will deliver justice. But what kind of “justice” are we talking about? The ‘justice’ that puts behind bars the persecuted, the “unlucky”, the suspect, the social fighter, whereas the real criminals (bosses, statists, snitches, journalists) parasitically live among us as “respected” citizens? Or the kind of “justice” that promoted the court scum who a few days earlier, sentenced our comrade George Karakasian to seven months in jail, essentially because of his refusal to submit to the authority’s diktat of obeying and keeping silent? They should learn however that we DO NOT STAY SILENT-DO NOT GIVE OUR CONSENT.
The daily I.D checks, fines, threats, “accidental” deaths from cop chases and blackmail is the only “social service” they can provide. Human dignity though, demands they get the answer they deserve. As anarchists in the struggle, we feel heavily indebted towards every social fighter who has been murdered, persecuted or jailed in the prisons of any State. We oppose the barbarity of power with the principles of solidarity, self-organisation and the escalation of the social struggle with every means available.
